Pharmacological information on the selection, prescribing, and use of medications in a single application: easyDOAC is a Progressive Web App (PWA) designed specifically for physicians and pharmacists.

Specific filter functions help users gain a comprehensive overview of patient-specific dosing and interaction profiles for approved direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in adults and assess the associated risks. In addition, daily treatment costs and economic benefit assessments can be displayed.

Based on the most recent, officially approved prescribing information, easyDOAC thus serves as a digital resource for physicians and pharmacists.

How easyDOAC Works

Installation

The PWA can be installed on a mobile device or desktop.

Set filter options

At a minimum, the appropriate indication and current kidney function are required; optionally, the results can be made more specific by entering additional patient characteristics (age, weight, creatinine) and potentially interacting concomitant medications.

The result

An overview of appropriate dosing regimens for the 4 approved DOACs based on the set filters, as well as warnings (e.g., contraindications, avoid, use with caution, etc.) along with management and monitoring instructions if specific considerations apply, as well as comparative data on daily treatment costs and the G-BA benefit assessment

Good to know: When opening easyDOAC, the user confirms that they belong to the medical profession—that is, that they are a physician or pharmacist. If this is not the case, the system displays a confirmation dialog and denies access to all of the app’s features and content.

What You Must Keep in Mind

The results are generated through rule-based access to a structured database.

easyDOAC does not provide a diagnosis, does not replace a physician’s treatment decision, and is expressly not intended for healthcare professionals, patients, or their family members.

In addition, a CHAD2DS2-VASc score calculator is integrated into the app to assess the risk of thromboembolism. Based on pre-existing conditions (chronic heart failure/left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke/transient ischemic attack/ thromboembolism, history of vascular disease) and patient characteristics (age, sex), a score is calculated that can be used to estimate the percentage risk of stroke per year.

To assess the risk of bleeding while taking anticoagulants, a HAS-BLED score calculator is provided that takes into account patient characteristics (age), exposure to xenobiotics (alcohol, NSAIDs, or antiplatelet agents), pre-existing conditions (hypertension, abnormal kidney or liver function, stroke, bleeding tendency), and prior experience with anticoagulants (unstable INR levels).

Finally, the app includes a kidney module that can estimate creatinine clearance using the Cockcroft-Gault formula based on the patient’s age, sex, weight, and serum creatinine levels.
